Our story began, when we worked as medical scribes, all the way back in 2018. When we first met, I was struck by how every worker adored him and I immediately felt comfortable with him. Since we were both headed to medical school, we quickly bonded over our shared future (struggles).

As medical school started, the shared 'trauma' of endless studies cemented a genuine friendship and our friend group became inseparable. We studied together daily, enjoyed nights out, and endured each other's terrible jokes. (Feel free to ask Alexander about the infamous bartender joke—it's truly awful but it brought me endless laughter).

During our second year of medical school, a fateful heartbreak left me in tears, but Alexander was instantly by my side with his golden retriever energy, determined to make me smile. A passing comment by our friend, Ashley, that “you all should date,” led to an idea that quickly took root in Alexander’s mind.

Over the next few weeks, our bond deepened quickly. We spent countless hours texting and talking, but most importantly, laughing late into the night. One Friday night, as we watched The Greatest Showman with our friends, we found ourselves holding hands, and a certainty settled over me. I wanted to hold Alexander’s hand forever.

Falling for each other happened slowly, then all at once. Days turned to weeks, weeks to months, and months to years. Whether it was our first date to Bon Iver, our many adventures, or just laying on the couch with Luna, I have cherished every minute together.

In December 2022, we visited my home country, Colombia, and he led me to the middle of the most beautiful hydrangea farm—the very pastures I used to run around in as a child. He knelt, and while I don’t remember everything he said, I know it was the happiest moment of my life. My happiness had come full circle, from running the fields as a kid to saying yes to forever with my best friend.
